There are a lot of things I would like to change about myself. I am not really "content" with my level right now..for a lot of factors. Like my athleticism, and overall health and diet. My perceived intelligence, my body and looks...My level of skill in art or writing. My ability to carry a conversation well, with wit and clever responses. Yah, so since I could go on with that list for a painfully long time, I will just stop there. Point being I am very self critical. Most people are the same, no doubt.
I recently spend more and more time internally dissecting why I care about certain things so darn much. Is it from a true personal desire to look a certain way, or is it social standards I am constantly absorbing. Do I really need to be this level of fit, or is it because I think that is what people around me want. Must I really have this or that kind of career, or is that a perception of social standings that has been shoved down my throat? What do I really want? What do I really need? Is it okay to change myself for whatever reasons it is based on?
The more I think about it the more I realize people don't really know who they are. I sure don't. Or, we don't know why we do things. We don't always know why this or that makes us feel bad or happy. We might think we do. But then if you take the time to really dig into it, you often realize you were doing it for something or someone else entirely....completely outside of yourself.
And there is no real way to get out of that. We live in a world constantly surrounding us with thousands of opinions, information, and standards set by the most random circumstances and social connotations.
Everyone is so different and unique, but we are all caught in the same web and we lose ourselves. It does a world of good, to stop and think about why you think and feel or act a certain way. Don't just assume you know yourself. Consistently take the time to really peel back your own layers every now and then....and you might just realize you have been drifting very far from your core self.
More so, to grow as a person you cannot just look inside yourself. It is not done just individualistically. You need those outside interactions. You need to open your mind and heart. To other people and their own unique and beautiful dreams and ideas and yes, even opinions. No, don't just fall into someone else' stream and be carried away! But be mindful...
It is such an important thing for your personal growth. I really believe, that to be a wise and truly intelligent human being, you must be interacting with the outside world. Sometimes engaging with others, sparks new thoughts and a fire within you, that you did not know could even exist until pointed out. You don't always know you are blind until someone takes away the blindfold. So allow yourself to interact outside of yourself. That is how you get fresh soil and new seeds for thought. That is how you grow lush new life within yourself. Every day try to have have mindful thoughts, and allow yourself to grow.
That is all for today. As always thank you for reading, and remember comments are open on these blogs if you ever want to share your own thoughts!
